What most apps say

Most trackers stop here. The total went up, so you get a badge and a streak.

But volume rises when you add a set or cut your rest. It can climb while a lift is going backwards.

So Trace ignores the total and asks a narrower question, one set at a time.

What Trace says

Every set is measured against the same set last session, as an estimated one-rep max.

More than 2% up: progressed. Within 2%: held. Further down than that: down.

The last lift stays grey. Two sessions are not a trend, so Trace will not score it.

9 of 18 sets got stronger. The volume total said +1.4%. Only one of those tells you anything.

Five answers, one of them honest about not knowing

A lift's overall verdict comes from its trend across sessions, smoothed so one good day does not count as a breakthrough.

  • Confirmed

Up, and sure of it. Eight or more sessions, trend above +2%.

  • Building

Up, but early. Fewer than eight sessions. Outlined, not filled.

  • Held

Flat. Inside the ±2% band. Most weeks of a long run look like this.

  • Declining

Down and staying down. Your food and weight trend sit on the same screen, so you can look at both.

  • Not yet

Grey, and it stays grey until the third session. No guessing.

Adaptive calorie target

Your target follows what your body actually did.

A formula guesses your burn from height and age. Trace works it out each week from the food you logged and the way your weight moved, then nudges your target and shows every step.

  • Weekly, never daily. One heavy weigh-in is water. The change waits for a trend.
  • Small steps. Half the gap, capped at 100 kcal, so one odd week can't swing you.
  • Training never buys food. Logged exercise is not added back to your target.
  • You decide. Accept it or keep your current number.

Food search

Search for dal. Get dal.

Plenty of trackers sort a text match by how often a barcode gets scanned, so a supermarket ready meal can outrank the dal you cooked this morning.

Trace ranks dishes, ingredients and packets separately, and measures dal in katori, not cups. Switch the ranking and watch the list reorder.

After a photo · one question1 katori dal

How was it cooked?

+41 kcalfrom about 4.5 g of oil or ghee, 1 teaspoon
Fat is 9 kcal per gram. Spray measured in a Bengaluru kitchen: 40 sprays ≈ 6 g. Trace learns your own pour after that.
Photo logging

A camera can't see the ghee.

When US government researchers weighed 102 meals and checked four popular apps, every one of them undercounted, by about 250 to 345 kcal a meal, mostly by missing fat.

Indian home cooking is exactly that kind of meal. So after a photo, Trace asks one question and shows you the difference it makes.

Trace
